With 96% of women initiating breastfeeding after birth, rates of breastfeeding dwindle to 39% by 3 months. Research also tells us that for most women, the end to their breastfeeding journey is often much earlier than they desired. After becoming a Maternal and Child Health, Amy soon studied to become an International Board Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). The IBCLC certification requires 95+ hours of study, more than 1,000 hours of observing/ supporting breastfeeding and successfully passing a 4 hour exam with a pass rate of over. Additionally, IBCLC Lactation Consultants are required to re-certify their qualification every 5 years. Amy first became a IBCLC Lactation consultant in 2017 and re-certified in 2022.
Amy believes the best start to the breastfeeding journey is education before your baby is born and offers antenatal workshops where expectant parents learn the foundations of lactation and how to navigate the first hours, days and weeks with their newborn.
The Breastfeeding Workshops are held face to face once every month.
Optimal timing to attend breastfeeding education is between 32 - 40+ weeks pregnant.

“
Even though I had done plenty of research about the birth process I was surprised by how much I learnt during Amy's Calmbirth® course. My partner enjoyed how accessible all the information was, he mentioned that Amy's personality and positivity genuinely made him a lot calmer about the upcoming labour. He's even looking forward to it! We really enjoyed the education about the labour stages and practical tips for being in the hospital. We also really appreciated the focus on the fourth trimester and the chance to ask questions, which we weren't expecting in a birth course.
