Biography

Hello! I’m Amy, and I’m here to support you through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with confidence and calm.

I am a Registered Nurse, Endorsed Midwife, IBCLC Lactation Consultant, Maternal & Child Health Nurse, and Calmbirth Educator based in Melbourne. With over a decade of experience supporting families in hospitals and the community, I offer evidence-based education and compassionate care tailored to your unique journey.

I began my career at The Royal Women’s Hospital, where I attended hundreds of births and worked closely with new parents during the precious early postpartum period. I’ve also had the privilege of advocating for women and families at a national level, contributing to Australia’s 2015 Royal Commission into Family Violence and sharing insights as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager in the Women’s Emergency Department.

Now, as a Maternal & Child Health Nurse and IBCLC Lactation Consultant, I walk alongside families from the very first days of their baby’s life through to early childhood. I work in both the public sector through local council and in private practice, allowing me to support families across a range of settings. I believe that early support and knowledge empowers parents to thrive, and I feel privileged to be part of this transformative journey.

Why I Teach Calmbirth

I first discovered Calmbirth when caring for labouring women as a Midwife. Time and time again, I saw how Calmbirth couples approached birth with confidence, clarity, and calm. Instead of fear and panic, these parents met birth with trust, knowledge, and a deep connection to each other. Witnessing these powerful births was profoundly impactful and inspiring - the confidence and connection these couple carried into their birth experience left a lasting impression on me as a midwife and deepened my belief in the power of knowledge and preparation.

When it was my turn to prepare for birth of my first baby, I too chose Calmbirth. Even as a Midwife, the course deepened my trust in my body’s ability to birth and gave my partner the tools to support me in the most meaningful way. Together, we experienced two positive and transformative births, and today, we are proud parents of two beautiful daughters.

A Journey of Support, From Pregnancy to Parenthood

Choosing Calmbirth with me is more than just a birth preparation class—it’s the beginning of a trusted partnership. I offer individualized support, continuity of care, and expert guidance tailored to you and your family. From preparing for labour to navigating breastfeeding and newborn care, I am here to help you step into parenthood with confidence.

    Calmbirth® couple - 2023

  • "Even though I had done plenty of research about the birth process I was surprised by how much I learnt during Amy's Calmbirth® course. My partner enjoyed how accessible all the information was, he mentioned that Amy's personality and positivity genuinely made him a lot calmer about the upcoming labour. He's even looking forward to it! We really enjoyed the education about the labour stages and practical tips for being in the hospital. We also really appreciated the focus on the fourth trimester and the chance to ask questions, which we weren't expecting in a birth course."

    Calmbirth® couple - 2023

“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth.”

- Marcie Macari
